Fine Arts Overview
The Brethren Christian Fine Arts Department aims to provide an outstanding arts education in a Christian environment. To that end, the program seeks to foster and develop the skills of each individual student. Courses of study are offered in visual arts, choir, drama, and band.
One semester of junior high art is available (repeatable) and four levels of art are offered at high school. Students will learn drawing, sketching, color theory, painting and sculpting. The school has two kilns to fire student ceramic projects. Student gifts and talents mark a permanent part on our campus in our Art Mural Wall in the 100 hall. Students also take part in ministry opportunities by participation in the Memory Project orphan ministry.
BC provides a complete instrumental music program. There are four levels of band available in the junior high school: Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, and Jazz Band. High school students can participate in Wind Symphony, 8 O'Clock Jazz Band, and Jazz Workshop. BC's bands have won numerous awards locally, regionally, and nationally. Students have opportunities to both perform and compete each school year.
The Choral Program is dedicated to inspiring students to be the very best learners, individuals, and musicians that they can be. It is a high level of commitment with a high level of expectation, but we believe it is worth every ounce of contribution. BC's Choral Program offers multiple highly regarded ensembles including Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, Men's Choir, and Jr. High Choir.
Students in junior high may take drama as a part of their elective cycle. There are three levels of drama in the high school. The BC Playhouse produces 2 plays and a musical each year. The plays participate in the MACY Awards and The Cappies. Over the years, BCHS has won numerous awards and accolades. In addition to the drama courses, BC also participates in Comedy Sportz, a competitive improvisational program.
