College Planning at Brethren Christian really starts in May of Eighth Grade. All in-coming freshmen (both new to Brethren and current students) and parents are invited to attend "High School 101," which includes an overview of Requirements for high school graduation and college entrance.
Beginning in the freshman year, students are given their own 24/7 account through Succeed.Naviance for personality test, interest profile, career interest profile, strengths finder, and college search engine with scatter gram data to assist students in the on-going research process.
The school intentionally provides appropriate testing on October with the PSAT for all students in grades eight through 11.
In February of the junior year, students and parents are invited to attend the "Junior Class College Planning Meeting" which kick starts the junior audit/interview with the counselors. Each student will meet with a counselor to clarify objectives and goals and to provide "next step" instruction for February through August prior to their senior year.
In August, typically the first week of school, seniors and parents are invited to attend a "College Application Night." Throughout the fall of their senior year, assistance is provided for students going through the application process. A Financial Aid meeting to help senior students and parents with Financial Aid, FAFSA, and Cal Grant is annually provided. DATE: tba.
