announced in the spring 2017 issue of the Bulletin of the California Band Directors Association, for his six years of participation in the All State Honor Bands.
The President’s Club honors students who have been in the All-State ensembles for four, five or six years. Schuyler is one of only nine students statewide to make the All-State Honor Ensembles for the entire six years of eligibility (grades 7-12), and is the only Orange County student on the six-year list.
The All State Honor Ensembles are held in San Jose each February. Students are selected by a rigorous process which includes a digital recording and a live audition on a college-level solo from a published list, major and minor scales, and sight reading.
“Each year was a new challenge with a different piece, and I tried to make the best possible recording of my playing” Schuyler said. When asked what was the best part about his All-State experience, he answered that it was “great to be with top level high school musicians from all over the state and getting to sit under some of the best college conductors in the country and to learn from their years of experience.” Schuyler will be attending Biola University in the fall as an Engineering Sciences major, and will be an active member in Biola’s concert band and jazz band.
Well done, Schuyler! Congratulations!
