On May 19, 20 BC participated in the local ACSI District Art Festival held at Bethany Christian Academy. BC sent 15 students/entries and participated in 6th, 8th and 9th-12th grades.

This year top honors go to BC's Yihan Wang (10th) with his portrait "Joker Riley." (You might recognize Riley Haugland from this friend portrait)

Yihan earned a perfect score of 40 from all 3 judges to win 1st place in 10th grade and to be chosen Best of Show (9-12 grade). Yihan had a close competitor from Southlands Christian school, a 12th grader named Shally (Yihan) Wang. (Her teacher and BC's art teacher, Keri Rushing had a laugh when they discovered each had students with the same name.)

Next top winner is Ryan Harper (9th) whose average score was 40. Ryan's No. 2 pencil design "Standing Vigilant" won 1st place 9th grade and was one of the festival's grade level theme awards- Stronger Together.

Other BC grade level winner's include; 12th grader Claire Alkire who placed 2nd, 11th grader Ashley Cashman who placed 3rd and 6th grader Elizabeth Mui who also placed 3rd.

The ACSI Art Festival Theme this year was Stronger Together.  Students  write a commentary to help judges understand the choices behind their work. Theme award ribbons were awarded to Hannah Montano (12th), Irene Kim (10th) and Ryan Harper (9th).

Other schools participating: Los Altos Brethren, Bethany Christian Academy, Calvary Murrieta Christian, Upland Christian Academy and Southlands Christian; and Lakewood Christian & Friends Christian with entries through the 5th grade level

Note: Usually best of show winners are 12th graders and occasionally an 11th grader but 10th grade is highly unusual. BC's last two Best of Show winners were seniors Tiffany Kim ('14) and Ben Mabry ('13) .
