The following courses meet the UC/CSU   A-G requirements:
 
 
ART  1 
 
Description:  Study various techniques and methods for creating two and three-dimensional art. Projects in drawing, painting and ceramics will be explored from beginning to intermediate levels of skill to teach elements and principles of art. Aesthetic perception and art history will be introduced. Students will be required to maintain a sketchbook of drawings done outside of class.

ADVANCED ART  2
 
Description:  An intermediate/advanced course which focuses on the development of compositional skills and art techniques for self-expression. Emphasis will be on drawing, painting, and ceramic Hand building techniques. Portraiture is stressed. Aesthetic perception, art history and aesthetic valuing will be utilized throughout this course. Students will be required to maintain a sketchbook of drawings done outside of class.
NOTE:  Advanced Art 2 and Art Methods 3 may be taken concurrently by 11th grade students wishing to take AP Studio Art 4 during the senior year, with instructor's approval.

Prerequisites: Art I
 
 
 
 
ART METHODS  3
 
Description:  An advanced approach at understanding elements and principles of art and design. A variety of art techniques and media will be explored including spray paint, cardboard and other mixed media. Emphasis on the Human Figure. The concepts of Art for others and public Art will be experienced through MemoryProject.org portraits for orphans and the Mural project. Students will be required to maintain a sketchbook of drawings done outside of class.
NOTE:  Advanced Art 2 and Art Methods 3 may be taken concurrently by 11th grade students wishing to take AP Studio Art 4 during the senior year, with instructor's approval.

AP STUDIO ART
 
Description:  Advanced Placement includes investigation into ideas and subject matter to produce a theme based series in a variety of art mediums. Students will assemble a portfolio of artwork, including work from previous courses, to meet the requirements as suggested by the College Board for evaluation and possible Advanced Placement credit. Students will be required to maintain a sketchbook of drawings done outside of class. 
 
Fee: Class fee and CollegeBoard AP test fee is paid at Book Sales.
Materials: zippered pencil pouch, red envelope portfolio 20"x26"x2" 
 
Prerequisites: Art Methods 3 and Instructor's approval required.
Additional Requirements: Students interested need to see instructor in June for summer assignments and also sign up for AP Studio Lab. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
INTRODUCTORY DRAMA
 
Description:  An introduction to all concepts and skills in theater arts. Included are acting exercises, theater games, improvisation, monologues, and scenes from traditional dramatic literature. This class fosters confidence in performance, understanding of the history of theater, and an appreciation of live professional theatre.
 
Students are required to see and review one professionally produced play or musical per semester.
 
 
 
 
 
 
ADVANCED DRAMA
 
Description:  Enriches to a greater extent those skills introduced in the class Introduction to Drama. It consists of more intense acting exercises and advanced improv activities. Students gain experience in technical aspects of theater. Participation is required in one major production, either in an acting role or in a technical crew assignment.
 
Students participate in drama festivals, school events, and outreach opportunities.
 
Prerequisite: Introduction to Drama or equivalent.
 
 
 
 
DRAMA WORKSHOP
 
Description:  A production oriented class. Students are expected to participate in two major productions per year either in acting or technical capacities. Advanced training in theater arts is available in preparation for plays, musicals, festival performances, and school events. Opportunity for further training is available in directing, set design, and technical production. Outreach opportunities which present an opportunity to serve our community through drama are sought.
  
Prerequisites: Advanced Drama; audition required.
 
 
 
 
 
CONCERT CHOIR
 
Description:  Concert choir consists of soprano, alto, tenor and basses. Students are given an opportunity for choral experience and vocal growth. In addition to learning to participate as an important member of a group sight-reading, ear training, vocal production and musicianship are all taught and do not require any prior or outside knowledge. Students will sing music from a wide variety of genres including classical, hymn, Broadway, spiritual, gospel and contemporary.
 
Outside performances/events are required including (but not limited to) school concerts, choir retreat and ACSI Musicale, a two- day choral music festival in Pasadena.
 
A choir fee is required.  There will be fundraising opportunities to help defray costs.
 
 
 
 
CHAMBER CHOIR/Honors
 
Description:  This course is an advanced mixed voice group (SATB). The singers must be able to hear intervals well and to sing a harmony part with authority. Voice production should be strong. Music reading is important but not a prerequisite. Repertoire will include choral music of the masters representing various periods of music history. Selections of hymn and gospel arrangements are added to enhance a spiritual outreach in the community.
 
In the latter part of the school year, lighter secular numbers are prepared for the annual spring concert. This is a performance-oriented group requiring out-of-school activities. The performances are not only of spiritual ministry to the public, but for the individual's own aesthetic and deepening musical experience. The approximate number of required performances in a school year is seven. Rehearsals are scheduled as needed. Most rehearsing is done in class.
 
Purchase of a special choir outfit is required. The choir typically goes on a retreat one weekend in January (Friday through Sunday). Fundraising at the beginning of the year helps defray the cost of tour transportation, retreat, and outfit if student chooses to benefit from this opportunity.
 
Prerequisites: All students are selected by audition according to their musical proficiency, vocal ability and motivation. Must have instructor's approval.
 
 
 
 
 
WIND SYMPHONY   Grades 9-12
 
Description:  Intermediate to advanced levels, performance-based ensemble. Students prepare high-quality musical literature for performance at concerts, competitive festivals and other school and community events. There is an annual weekend retreat in which students fine tune concert skills, and there is a tour every other year. Students may also audition to participate in honor groups and solo/ensemble performances. Private lessons are recommended.
 
Students enrolled in Wind Symphony are also members of the Warrior Band, which performs at Warrior football games. (Football players and varsity cheerleaders are exempt.) There are evening Warrior Band music rehearsals held during the last two weeks of summer vacation. 
 
Prerequisites: By audition.  (At least two years experience on the instrument is recommended.)
 
Fee: $150 (paid at Book Sales) for materials and instruction.  Additional costs for outfits, retreat and tour may be partially offset by participating in fundraisers. (Fee does not include private lessons or instrument rental.)
 
Supplies: 
  • Band instrument (sticks, mallets and mallet bag for percussionists)
  • Music stand for home practice
  • Korg metronome/tuner
 
 
 
 
 
HONORS WIND SYMPHONY    Grades 9-12
 
Description:  Students are members of the Wind Symphony class (see HS Wind Symphony course description), but must meet extra requirements to earn honors credit. Honors Wind Symphony students  earn a possible 5.0 grade point by completing the requirements: passing a major scales playing test, auditioning for the All-State Honor Band and ACSI Southern California Regional Honor Band (first semester), passing a minor scales playing test, performing in a solo recital (second semester) and weekly private lessons (both semesters), in addition to the regular course requirements for Wind Symphony.
 
Students enrolled in Honors Wind Symphony are also members of the Warrior Band, which performs at Warrior football games. (Football players and varsity cheerleaders are exempt.) There are evening Warrior Band music rehearsals held during the last two weeks of summer vacation.

EIGHT O’ CLOCK JAZZ BAND    Grades 9-12
 
Description:  Advanced level, performance-oriented  jazz course. Students learn skills necessary for performance of advanced high-school level jazz arrangements, including jazz improvisation. There are several performances per semester, including a major jazz festival and “Big Night O’ Jazz,” a concert with a professional, Christian jazz artist. This ensemble travels every other year to the Reno Jazz Festival.  Private lessons are highly recommended (required for rhythm section), and are offered on campus for an additional fee.
 
Prerequisites: By audition.  All students must be concurrently enrolled in Wind Symphony in order to be in the Jazz Band. 
 
Fee: $ 75 paid at Book Sales.  Additional costs for outfits or trip may be partially offset by participating in fundraising activities. (Fee does not include private lessons or instrument rental.)
